Nightclub Prep: What NOT to do!

If you’re going to be at one of the sexy, stylish London nightclubs this weekend, you'll probably be spending a couple of hours getting to look your best. If you’re female, that is! If you’re male, you'll need around 20minutes to shower and change … but that's another story :-). Some of you will have developed a knowledge of these tips already, thanks to one or two disastrous and uncomfortable nights out at clubs in London. But for those of you tempted to leave your prep til the last minute, we have some definite don’t do's for you. Sometimes last minute is worse than not doing it at all … read on!
Waxing
You are probably familiar with the superficial bruising phenomenon if you regularly wax your underarms. However, mishaps do occur with other areas of your body, and Murphy's law says that if you’re going out to a London nightclub tonight, this is when they'll happen. Wax in advance - failing that, always shave.
Silkymitt
This hair removal system shouldn’t be used directly before clubbing, despite the fact that it claims to remove hair and make your skin smooth and gorgeous. The fact is, clubs are usually pretty sweaty, body-contact sorts of places … and if you've just Silkymitt-ed, sweat and contact will hurt! Shave - always shave if you only have a few hours before clubbing.
Eyebrow tweezing
If you’re in a rush to get to your London nightclub while entry is still free, you won’t necessarily be as calm as you could be … it is highly likely you'll fall victim to the 'Oh dear, I've overplucked one side - better even it up'. Curse and repeat, and end up looking quite scary! In addition, the swelling can take a while to go down, so do this the day before.
Vigorous exfoliation
We all want to be our smoothest and most delicious for a night of clubbing in London. But exfoliation can leave your skin extra-sensitive to the host of cosmetics that you'll be covering it with, and may cause nasty reactions.
Fake tanning
Don’t substitute this for real tanning - just leave a few days break between your fake tanning and your hot date with a London nightclub! We obey Murphy's Law, remember…

A Perfect Proposal

My boyfriend of three years received a big promotion and an offer to manage one of the largest nightclubs in London, England. It was a huge opportunity and one he just couldn’t pass up. I had obligations that prevented me from leaving at that time so we decided to carry on a long-distance relationship until I was able to join him at the end of the year. It would be a long five months but I was very excited about having the chance to relocate to England after I had fulfilled my contractual obligation.

My contract ended just after Christmas and as soon as I was available I caught the first flight to London. I arrived four days before the turn of the year and my boyfriend was very busy planning the huge New Year party his nightclub was throwing. It was the first time I had been out of the United States and I was excited to see the city. There was so much to do and see, especially on the west end of London. I had plenty of time but felt the need to see it all right away.

He had rented a very cute flat just a few doors down from his night club. The neighbors were friendly and I felt very much at home in this strange country. My boyfriend’s club was a very popular clubs among the London nightlife. Live bands often performed to sold out crowds. He was a big success and his bosses were very happy with him.

On New Year’s Eve I dressed up in little black dress I had bought especially for this occasion. I had never really been into clubbing but since this was his big night for the club I certainly wanted to be there to share it with him; especially since it was New Year's and we had never been apart for the turn of the year. As the clock ticked away with less than three minutes to go until midnight my boyfriend took the microphone and began doing the countdown. With two minutes to go he asked for everybody’s attention. Then he turned to me, got down on one knee, pulled out a ring box, and asked me to marry him. His timing was perfect. Of course I said “yes” and just as he slid the ring on my finger the clock ticked down to the new year. It was an amazing night and one I will never forget.

Bringing in the New Year London Style

I had the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program while I was in college. I spent a year in London, England, and had the time of my life. Being a college student I was all about going out clubbing and having a good time. London didn’t disappoint me at all; it was a very happening party town.

I lived in the college dorm and had quite a few friends to go explore the city with. The night clubs in London are flashy and full of life. The music is always excellent and many of the clubs have live bands. When the weather permits dancing often spills out onto the sidewalk in front of a club. The culture is quite a bit different than in the U.S. as there was very little fighting happening in the bars and it seemed that everybody got along famously.

My gang decided to hit all the New Year's Eve parties in London that we could sneak into or get invited into. It was a night to remember. We went to at least seven different parties and we didn’t have to sneak into any of them. They were open for anybody to join in. We welcomed the new year in among two hundred people we had never met before but they all seemed like good friends and treated us like we belonged.

I was actually surprised with how friendly everybody was in London. I had half expected to be snubbed for being an American but everybody I met was genuinely interested in knowing more about me and my culture. I met some excellent people at that New Year party; some of whom are still my friends today. I learned a lot about life in the year I spent in London and feel it benefited my life a great deal. I have a wider view of the world for what I experienced and made some extraordinary friends in the process.

I’ve been back to London several times over the past ten years to meet up with my friends and share some memories. I always try to plan my trips around the turn of the year so we can repeat that first night we hit all the New Year's Eve parties in London. I’ve welcomed in the new year in many different places but I have to say the best party’s in the world are in London.

80s Disco Nights at London Nightclubs -- What to Wear!

Eighties fashion is actually coming back in … did you notice? Even pieces that aren't blatant copies of the decade of crimping and legwarmers have the same bold colors, off-the-shoulder obsession and affinity for eyeshadow. If you’re hankering for some nostalgia in your weekend, then 80s disco nights at your fave nightclub in London are the place to get it. Partly for fun, and partly for information, we are looking at the fashions that defined the 80s … and will again define your weekend!
Paint splatters
Two decades ago, paint splatter fashion was unfathomably cool! You can DIY for a night at a London nightclub, or go authentic with the Esprit paint splatter jeans that made such a splash when they came out. Yves Saint Laurent and Diane von Furstenberg have both created paint splatter fashion, but you'll find more affordable pieces in your local thrift shop. Capris and short, fluffy skirts go well with a bit of splatter -- but don't ever break the double-splatter rule! Top or bottom only, please.
Stirrup Pants
Only for the most hardcore of 80s enthusiasts with the thinnest of legs, stirrup pants made even Kylie Minogue look a little triangle legged … but they'll certain give your weekend outfit for 80s nights at London nightclubs a bit of authenticity!
Neon colors
This will be one of the easiest 80s trends to replicate for your London nightclub adventures. Neon is back in a big way, and every department store in the world has some to be found, at least in the kids section. Go with neon orange, yellow, pink and green for best impact. Blue and purple just look a little, well, blue and purpley. If you’re going to hurt somebody's eyes, you may as well do it properly!
Pegged jeans
You'd roll up your jean legs in the 80s to keep them out of the way of your motorbike pegs … one of the origins of the expression pegged jeans. This will be an easy, low investment costume for an 80s disco night at your fave London nightclub -- it can be done to just about any jeans, other than flares. Fold any excess fabric over first and then give it a little roll -- not just a simple flat fold. Much too preppy!

Hip Hop Dance Moves for Nightclubs in London

If you’re a guy and don't naturally have talent for dancing, a lot of the fun goes out of nightclubs. However, one supremely male-oriented style of dance that can help pep up your standard sequences at nightclubs in London is hip hop. It has its roots in African dance, and the staccato, simple movements of most styles mean that it is extraordinarily easy to make look decent. Practice these moves at home, as well as in dancing lessons before you head out to your favourite London nightclubs this party season!
Moonwalking
The 80s were long enough ago now that moonwalking is back in favor. It's passed the ugh phase back into the cool, retro phase! It can even be done to a lot of electronica and hip hop, as well as pop and rock. To moonwalk well, you have to practice. Here is the basic technique:
  • Put all your weight on the ball of your right foot
  • Put your left foot flat on the ground, in front of the raised foot
  • Drag your left foot backwards so that your toes are in line with the heel on your right foot, while lifting your left heel slightly.
  • Don’t push down on your left foot, or it won’t glide properly
  • Lower the heel of your right foot as you drag the left back, raising its heel slightly.
  • A full length mirror really helps!
Krumping
Best done to full hip hop songs, krumping is a fast, sharp style of dance that incorporates lots of different moves in a short space of time. The best way to learn krumping to incorporate in your dancing in nightclubs in London is to watch a video tutorial -- check out www.pimpmykrump.com for a huge array.
Harlem Shake
London nightlife loves the Harlem Shake! Electronica and even chillout tunes go great with a Harlem Shake. Here's the moves to practice before your next appointment with a nightclub in London.
  • Put your forearms out, and move them from right to left
  • Your left shoulder moves up towards your ear, and your arms move to the right
  • Switch sides, moving your right shoulder up to your ear and your arms to the left.
  • You'll do the switch 3 times, and then pop, which involves throwing your left shoulder back and down, while your right shoulder goes up and forward.
  • You need a bit of space around you at your nightclub in London to practice this one -- go on a quieter night.

Putting on Body Glitter for a Night of Clubbing

Just fill your tub with glitter, get nude and do a bit of rolling around … chuck on your clubwear and you're ready to go, right? Nuh uh! Not unless you want to look like Mrs Jetson. There are very specific ways to put both face and body glitter on if you’re heading off to a hot night club in London this weekend. We look at some of the essential tips.
  1. Choose the right product: Your glitter will be for your face or body. The different formulations are created to account for the likelihood that you'll be wearing makeup on your face, and the different sweat patterns. Face glitter is usually less sticky, because layering sticky glitter on top of makeup is a recipe to look like a pancake.
  2. Color selection: Choose the shade of your glitter carefully. Silver and gold glitter are the easiest to match and the least garish. If you come to a night club in London covered in red glitter with a devil's pitchfork in hand, you are more likely to actually look like Satan than just a naughty girl! Use silver with cool-colored outfits and gold with warm.
  3. Glitter last: You should actually get everything else on before you apply your glitter. This includes both your makeup and clothes. Almost all body glitters are washable -- check first, and then don’t stress about getting any on your clothes.
  4. Pick a theme for placement: A great placement technique for body glitter that is really effective in London nightclubs is to only apply body glitter to the top of your body. Pretend that it has fallen from the sky -- apply the glitter only where it would fall naturally if you were looking slightly upwards, with your arms outstretched. This helps the London nightclub lights highlight it, and stops you from overdoing it.
  5. Don’t mix your own: Yes, there are plenty of blogs and advice articles saying that you can mix your own body glitter using Vaseline and craft supply glitter. I say no! You'll be bumping up against a lot of other people at your nightclub in London, and petroleum jelly is not the nicest thing to have smeared all over you by a stranger. Commercial preparations are kind to your skin and considerate of others around you. They often set somewhat, meaning that the glitter isn’t as likely to rub off. Finally, the effect of a commercial preparation is much more subtle, as the grain is much finer than craft glitter.

Déjà vu: What you can expect to hear at 90s soul nights

If you just can't bump to another electro track, need a relaxing night out and would love to be taken back to a time 15 years ago, when the cheeks were full and the world was rosy, 90s soul nights at night clubs in London will have you screaming "Oh WOW! I haven't heard this in AGES!" So whatcha going to listen to at 90s soul nights around London this weekend?
Jodeci
With hits like "Stay" and "Cry For You," Jodeci was one of those 90s soul artists that we all danced to, all bopped as soon as we heard the opening bars of the beat … but surprisingly, never knew the name! You just remember this one for Saturday night at your fave nightclub in London.
Tony! Toni! Tone!
Some thought the name was a bit pretentious, but the music was cool anyway (yes, that was me that thought that!), but nobody who grew up through the 90s can say that don’t know the chorus to their hit "It Never Rains (In Southern California)." Lounge with a rum and coke or something else super soulful for this tune.
Montell Jordan
"This Is How We Do It" is instantly recognizable for almost all of us twenty to thirty-somethings ... not least because the title of the song is the opening line, before one beat has been beated! 'Let's Ride' was another of his biggies that you are likely to hear at a soul night in London's nightclubs.
Boyz II Men
They'll make love to you, like you want them to, and they'll hold you tight baby, all through the night ... and then when you come to the end of the road, you'll be crying into your fruitylicious cocktail! Better hope they don’t play this one at the end of the night and ruin all your carefully done eye makeup.
Barry White
This sub-sonic crooner has been a favorite through the 80s, 90s and naughties, and night clubs in London know that just as well as you. His solo hit "Practice What You Preach" is likely to feature, as is one of his better known collaborations with James Ingram and Quincy Jones, "The Secret Garden."
SWV
These Sisters with Voices struck a chord with lots of high school chickadees through the 90s, including me. Yes, I know, it's all very sad ... and I love it! Because "I know love will be right here," beside me on the dance floor.
Fugees
Still as popular in their various incarnations as they were in the 90s as the Fugees, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras had their best known song with a cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly." Get out your soulful eyes for dat one, and dance your little heart out at the hottest night club in London.

New Year's Eve, a night to remember

My friends and I decided that we were going to do something totally different for New Year's Eve last year, to bring in 2009. We wanted to go to London, but had no idea where to go. After a bit of research, we found a great website with links to several different night clubs in the London area. The website had information about everything a traveler would need to know, from parking to nearby hotels, directions to each club on the website. The hardest part was deciding which club to go to from the site. All the clubs mentioned on the site seemed like a lot of fun, and exactly what we were looking for. We eventually decided on a club and made our reservations.

When we arrived in London, we checked into our hotel and went to check out the club we had previously decided on. We did a little partying the night we got there. It was an R'n'B club we weren't really sure what to expect because none of us had been to London before, but we had a lot of fun and couldn't wait for the New Year's party that was still three days away. When New Year's Eve came, the party was crazy and fun, and more fun than we had expected.

The thing that we were most impressed with was the fact that the sites we looked at had so much information, that we didn't even feel the need to ask questions when making the reservations. We knew what to expect as far as the hotels and the night clubs. We wanted to try them all out so next time we go we are going to go to a different one. And hopefully we can get to several of them next time. Although I have a feeling we will be using the sites to keep finding new places to party when we want to go clubbing in London.

After the party, and we got back home, we all had to tell our co-workers and other friends about the time we had. This year we plan on using the same site, londongroove.co.uk, to find another club to party at for this coming New Year's Eve party. This year we are bringing even more friends with us.

It is never to early to plan a happy New Year

Last New Year’s Eve, my financee, Ann, and I went to Bondai on Fulham Road.  When she was looking into where we should go to ring in the New Year, she saw a list on the London Groove Web site that included this as one of the hot bars to check out.  Since we live right down the way, we thought it seemed like a great idea.  We invited a few couple to go with us and then stay over at our flat after the festivities were over.  We had a fabulous time.  All the drinks were delicious and the prices were well within reason.  We spent quite a few pounds that night, but, hey, it was New Year’s Eve.  The atmosphere was unbelievably fun.  Out of all the clubs we frequent, Bondai by far had the best music, hands down.  The DJs played all the latest hits and just about any classic that you can think of.  The wait staff were courteous and respectful. They were dressed professionally and clean cut, and they were quick to respond when you asked for a fresh drink.  While I prefer the Ketel One and cranberry juice, my Ann prefers to drink the 12-year-old Glenfiddich neat.  We tried some of the other cocktails they mix at the suggestions of our servers and were pleased.  Our friends also engaged in lots of dancing and consumed several beverages each.  We all left happy and arrived back at the flat safely.

Ann had the good sense to buy our tickets well in advance.  If she hadn’t had the foresight to do that, we quite certainly would not have gotten in, since they were sold out when we arrived—and we arrived fairly early in the evening.  The place was completely packed, but we were impressed with the good time everyone seemed to be having.  The music was just the right level of volume and the dance floor was just the right level of packed—not so packed that you could not move around, but filled with enough people so that you did not stand out if you tried to bust a move.  The blokes and I were not the best dancers, therefore, it was nice to simply blend in with the scenery and watch our ladies get their groove on.  For the coming New Year, Ann has already booked a VIP area.  We are confident that—given the good time we had this past New Year’s, as well as the club’s reputation among our friends—that we will be able to get enough people together to make it worth our while.  I just need to remind my mates that they need to dress smart for the occasion.

Nightclubs in London

London is known for many things. The obvious would be the Buckingham Palace, the home of England’s Queen. Or maybe it would be the London Bridge, Big Ben, or the Tower of London that make the city well known. In fact, it is all of these things, and more. The capital city of England is also quite well known for its booming nightlife. Never Be Bored Again

Have you ever been sitting around on a Saturday night completely bored? Most of us have, at one time or another, been faced with a Saturday night when we had absolutely nothing to do. No date, no party, no movies, no nothing. The good news is that you can prevent those boring Saturday nights by utilizing one simple resource.

The simple resource to which we refer is known as the party database. Basically, the party database is an online compilation of all the most happening and promising events taking place in your area at any given time. Using a party database means no more hopping from lame party to lame party, no more spending the evening staring at a trucker across the room at the Waffle House, no more feeling awkward because you and your best friend are the only two people on the dance floor! Instead, you’ll be up on the hottest places to go, what time to arrive, and even what you should wear.

Another interesting factor about the party database is that it's designed to guide users with specific interests. For example, if your primary goal in finding an event to attend is good music, the party database will direct you to events where music is a key interest. The same rule applies to those who are looking for events wherein dancing is a priority, a live band is a priority, and even meeting members of the opposite sex as a priority, the list goes on and on. So, the next time you're sitting around the house bored out of your mind on a Saturday night, consider logging on and finding a local party database.

As of now, one of the best-known party databases keeps track of all the events happening in London. If you live in London, or you’re planning to travel there, you’ll find that the London party database is as thorough as it gets. As you likely know, London, England, is one of the most upscale nightlife cities in the world.

So, if you're interested in boosting your own nightlife, browse through your local party database and then get out there and have some fun!

Find the Hottest Parties

Everyone loves a good party. But most of the time, it's hard to tell which parties will be good and which will be total duds. If you're looking for something to spice up your nightlife, you should consider looking into a high-quality party database. Basically, a party database will provide you with information on which parties will be happening and which parties will be a waste of time.

Much of what makes a party worth going to is how well it suits your individual personality. If you're into dancing, you will want to visit a party where dancing is a priority. If you're into swag, you need a party where swag will be included. Believe it or not, it is possible to find the most promising parties and the best and nightlife before enduring a trial and error process. One of the worse things you can do is go out for a night on the town and visit one dud event after another until you finally find a party that’s worth staying at. Unfortunately, however, this is how far too many people navigate their big nights out.
Why leave your party-going to chance when you can easily access resource that will provide with addresses, times, and all the information you need to guarantee a good time? This can be especially important if your whole goal for going out is to mingle with the opposite sex. Guys, you don’t have to party hop to find the locales that boast the hottest girls. And girls, you don’t have to roam from event to event in the hopes that by some miracle, you will run into a group of guys that have all their teeth and a job – not to mention a sense of style.
Time is far too precious to waste. So, instead of spending your time roaming from one lane the party to another, simply hoping that you would run into an event or person worth spending time with, consider looking online for a high quality party index. Yes, this is a unique concept…and one that not many people would think of. So, we’ve dedicated our time to getting the word out. You never have to be bored again, and you never have to waste time getting all dressed up for a party that will prove to be totally lame. Get out there and have some fun!
